Who is responsible

The controller for the Passpip app (“Passpip Germany”, com.passpip.de) and this website is:

Email: passpip.support@gmail.com

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up. Passpip never asks for your name or email address.
  • Your study progress stays on your phone. It is not sent to us.
  • Usage statistics only with your consent. You decide when you first open the app and can change it any time in Settings.
  • We never sell your data and do not use it for anything other than what is described here.

Data in the app

Study progress and settings

Your answers, mistakes, exam results, streak, exam date, state, language and other settings are stored in a database on your phone. They never reach us. Android’s own backup can copy them to your Google account so they come back on a new phone; you control that in Android’s settings.

Reminders

Reminders are scheduled on your phone. There is no notification server and no push token.

Pass Pack purchase

You buy the Pass Pack through Google Play. Google processes the payment; we never see your payment details. RevenueCat checks with Google Play whether you own the Pass Pack, using a random ID that is not linked to your name.

Usage statistics (with consent)

If you allow it, the app sends anonymous events to PostHog’s EU servers, for example "practice round finished" or “mock exam passed”. We use them to see which parts of the app help people and where they get stuck. If you do not allow it, nothing is stored on your device for this purpose and no long-term ID is created.

Crash reports

When the app crashes, Sentry (EU region) receives a technical report so we can fix the bug. It contains no names or email addresses.

Optional ad videos

Free users can choose to watch a short video, for example to get one more mock exam that day. Ads are only loaded after you tap to watch, and never for Pass Pack owners. In the EU and the UK, Google’s consent dialog asks first whether ads may be personalised; if you decline, you only get non-personalised ads.

Reports and emails

“Report a problem” opens your own email app with the question number, app version and catalogue version filled in. You decide what to send. We keep support emails for up to 24 months so we can follow up on a correction.

App settings file

The app downloads a small settings file from this website (for example the minimum app version). Like any web request this involves your IP address, but the app sends no personal data with it.

Transfers outside the EU

Some services are run by companies in the USA. Where a company is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, the transfer is based on that framework; otherwise it is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • get a copy of the data we hold about you (Art. 15) and receive it in a portable format (Art. 20),
  • have wrong data corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17), and restrict its use (Art. 18),
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21),
  • withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future, in the app under Settings (Art. 7(3)),
  • complain to a data protection authority, for example the one where you live (Art. 77).

Because Passpip has no accounts, we can usually only find your data with your help, for example the email address you wrote to us from. How to delete everything is explained on Delete your data.

Passpip is meant for adults preparing for the test and is not directed at children.

Changes

When the app adds a new service or a new kind of data, this page is updated first and the date at the top changes. Questions: passpip.support@gmail.com.
